For the first time in the history of gastroenterology, an international conference will take place which joins together the forces of four pre-eminent organisations: GASTRO 2009, UEGW/WCOG London. The United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEGF) and the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO), together with the World Organisation of Digestive Endoscopy (OMED) and the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), are jointly organising a landmark meeting in London from November 21 -25, 2009. This collaboration will ensure the perfect balance of basic science and clinical practice, will cover all disciplines in gastroenterology (endoscopy, digestive oncology, nutrition, digestive surgery, hepatology, gastroenterology) and ensure a truly global context; all presented in the exciting setting of the city of London.
Attendance is expected to reach record heights as participants are provided with a compact “all-in-one” programme merging the best of several GI meetings. Faculty and participants from all corners of the earth will merge to provide a truly global environment conducive to the exchange of ideas and the forming of friendships and collaborations.

The United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEGF) and the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO) have joined forces to launch a truly unique event GASTRO 2009, to be held in London November 2009. This landmark congress will blend the annual United European Gastroenterology Week for 2009 and the World Congress of Gastroenterology, the latter due in Europe also in that year. Two additional major organizations, the Organisation Mondiale de Endoscopie Digestive (OMED) and the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) will also participate to accomplish a model partnership that will bring you the very latest and best from every aspect of gastroenterology and from every corner of the globe. GASTRO 2009 will provide the gastroenterologist (adult and paediatric), endoscopist and digestive surgeon from all continents with the most up-to-date information on all of the clinical issues that confront them on a daily basis and in a global context.
The UEGF Scientific Committee guarantees the scientific quality of the original program through the rigorous peer review of communications expected to flow in from major clinical and basic science groups throughout the World. The Scientific Committee, which incorporates ad hoc members from the various partners of GASTRO 2009 has developed as well a stellar educational program that will ensure high standards and accredited continuing medical education for attendees.
As in prior World Congresses, Working Part Reports will provide definitive statements on challenging and controversial areas in gastroenterology. The quadrennial World Congress also provides an opportunity for those who care for patients with digestive disorders throughout the world to come together in one of the world’s major cities to exchange ideas and experiences, renew old acquaintances and make new friends; London, one of the great capitals of the world, is an ideal location for such a truly international gathering.
GASTRO 2009 will be truly special and an event that anyone involved in our area of medicine and medical science cannot afford to miss. We look forward to seeing you and welcoming you in London.
